I particularly have an interest in paediatric breathing problems. I have had the role of diagnosing and treating many of the difficult paedaitric ENT problems referred into the Leeds teaching hospitals from around the region. Much of the time I try and avoid the need to insert a tracheostomy although this still can be a very effective treatment. This type of work can only be undertaken with a close working relationship with paediatric anaesthetic colleagues and the support of paediatric and neonatal intensive care units. Many treatments mostly surgical are available to address these serious breathing problems.
Below are some images of paediatric airway pathology and a link to a Youtube video of an examination of a normal paediatric airway under anaesthesia.
