I have always enjoyed sailing, but never lived by the sea. Currently I own a trimaran that I sail as often as I can. I undertake all the maintenance myself and derive as much pleasure from that as the sailing!
For several years I have skippered a team from Leeds General Infirmary in the NHS Regatta. This costs the NHS nothing, but is a racing event between different hospital teams.
In 2009 I competed in the Fastnet Offshore Yacht Race with a team from the Leeds area. We opened champagne after rounding the Fastnet lighthouse off the coast of south west Ireland.
I used to own an old Morgan that required a fair bit of maintenace. That went many years ago when the first bigger boat came. For several years I had a Landrover Defender to keep me amused, I was less amused when one of my sons managed to get it stuck! This has now been sold and the latest edition is a restored MGB which no doubt will require plenty of ongoing maintenance.
Some furniture I have enjoyed making and furniture repair projects. I would like to do more but currently can't find enough time. I have started wood turning but only just beginning.
